Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 29 - Sky

Friday, August 29, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 77 degrees humid (100 %) wind 7 MPH and mostly cloudy (rain = 23 - DPSF = Drops Per square Foot) to 97 degrees and mostly cloudy 53% humidity with winds of 8 MPH.
Sunrise (before rain drops)
Vehicle coming and goings is still low here at the gate. Well Bonnie is off for a nap then when she gets up I will trip into Pleasanton for groceries.

Cell phone & air card signals are coming and going from 4 G to 1 X across Verizon and AT&T. We never know which will be stronger from hour to hour and sometimes I need to reboot the air card to obtain the signal again. We are in closer to the Tilden Verizon tower that came on line some time this year. We have had three gates within a fifteen mile radius of Tilden and this is the closest (in a straight line).

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 28

Thursday, August 28, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 78 degrees humid (89%) wind 7 MPH and mostly sunny to 99 degrees and hazy sun 45 % humidity with winds of 14 MPH.

The weather “talkers” have been talking about a low with rain moving west in the Gulf of Mexico affecting our weather pattern, maybe even this area has a chance of getting some rain. So far today the wind gusts have been more than the past few days, enough so I felt it was best to close our table side awning while the eastern sky clouded up.
Tank Battery

Well that turned into nothing but our high temperature was lower and did not stay at the high for a long time today. A very slow day for vehicles, mostly tankers in and out, oil tankers hauling out crude oil ($) and water tankers hauling out water (expense).

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - sensor

Wednesday, August 27, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 75 degrees humid (91%) wind 5 MPH and hazy sun to 98 degrees and hazy sun 31% humidity with winds of 10 MPH.
Sensor opened up

Still getting some false alerts but the number and frequency is manageable for me. When the sun goes down I will change the range switch seeing if that will also lower the false alert number. All of these false alerts are from only one of two units. The red bock in the picture is where the white switches are located.

Sensor in place

I am getting a few more vehicles coming to this gate in error, another company some where here in the area is ramping up operations at a gate with drivers trolling for the correct location. None of these drivers ever return and give me the information for the location that was being hunted.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 26 - silence

Tuesday, August 26, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 75 degrees humid (95%) and mostly sunny to 102 degrees and hazy sun 34% humidity with winds of 9 MPH.

The generator rental company came and replaced the generator today, they were supposed to come and replace the fuel hose and a ground fault receptacle yesterday. I called the generator company about five last night, listening to a small song and dance routine before he said they will be here in the morning to replace the generator.

Bonnie was up early for a trip exploring Tilden, TX getting her own look of the town.

I think I have finally found the key to the false alarms, the entry gate sensor was set to a sensitive setting. The are two switches inside for range and sensitivity. I was having trouble finding the manual on line, got it this afternoon and having a better life with almost no false alarms. There are still some false alarms but nothing like before. The false alarms seemed to happen as the heat of the day came on to high between eleven
and five was when the number of false alarms were unbelievable. This afternoon life was good, silence.

Tilden

I ventured out to Tilden. Got rid of  garbage. Stopped at the local market, grossly over priced spent under $5. That's a one time stop. Then the Big Mercantile store Prices more reasonable plus they have hot food to take out so brought home something for dinner/supper.
Hoping to go to Three Rivers, they at least have a Dollar General store.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 25 alarm

Monday, August 25, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 74 degrees humid (99%) and partly cloudy to 100 degrees and hazy sun with 12 MPH breeze. Yesterdays and today afternoon wind was lower than the previous couple of days and feeling the temperature more because of that.
Taken from behind Buster
Slow average day, with minimal amount of vehicle traffic coming to and leaving the gate today. I am still trying to position the incoming gate alarm to reduce the false alarms. I am stumped as there is no way the “pucker brush” is setting off the alarm. More work to do on this setup. There are no false alarms coming from the out going alarm. Each alarm sends a different signal to the base unit to alert us to vehicles approaching Buster.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 24 leak

Sunday, August 24, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 76 degrees humid (100%), 4 mph breeze and mostly cloudy to 100 degrees and hazy sunny.

While it was quiet I moved the sensors further out from Buster, to give us more time to react to the vehicles coming or going. I mounted them down lower so they do not pick up the swaying of the "pucker brush" in the higher wind speeds. But the incoming sensor still sending out false signals in the late afternoon. I have racked my pea brain thinking of ways to prevent these false signals. It was a slow traffic day with just a few vehicles coming in and leaving the gate.

Sensor attached to end of the gate

During the late afternoon there was a petroleum smell in the air outside Buster’s door when I was going out. First impression was wrong, that the wells down the road was causing the smell. I knew that it was not H 2 S gas, but latter coming back from the entrance alarm position I noticed a wet spot under the generator, aha diesel fuel leak, that smell was diesel fuel. I called for service and they were here in less than two hours. Troubleshooting revealed a fuel hose creaked spraying diesel fuel over the engine compartment .

Looking in from the gate area
He was able to cut a piece off and reattach the hose. They will be back this morning with replacement hose as the remaining hose is brittle. We are loving this unit the best one we have had at any gate. Quite we really do not know it is operating out side our bedroom. Second is the fact it has a pure sine wave inverter so our clocks maintain correct time. A modified sine wave does not maintain the sixty cycles and your clock will gain or lose time during a day.  That is why we also have a good battery clock. We keep our GPS on also for the clock function, twelve volt DC.

Generator white, left (front) is where the engine is located

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 23 calm

Saturday, August 23, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 75 degrees humid (98%) burning off (partly cloudy) to  hazy sun, to 104 degrees sunny, wind 14 MPH and 29% humidity. With the lower wind speed you can feel the heat more.

The wind has calmed down today so that we are not experiencing a lot lower number of false alarms. There was a large group of workers leaving the job site (work completed) today so I do not know how much longer this gate will be active for Bonnie and I. My evaluation it has been good professional people (workers) coming here know how to act -signing in on a log sheet, no people coming here needing to be redirected to another location. Now we just hope the gate assignment lasts a while. slow gate traffic today.

Pictures are the Saturday evening flairs from half a mile away and the feed trough to Busters left side.

After showering took a walk. I felt comfortable with wet hair tank top & shorts. Saw 2 deer so worth it.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 21 & 22 - Hot

Thursday, August 21, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 78 degrees humid (93%) with a 6 MPH breeze and hazy sunny to 102 degrees and hazy sun wind at 18 to 23 mph.

Just mundane in and out gate traffic today and heat.

Friday, August 22, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 80 degrees humid (83%) with a 8 MPH breeze and mostly cloudy to 100 degrees and hazy sun with winds to 23 MPH.

With the afternoon temperature and wind it is like a blow torch on my legs (shorts on you know) but the wind and heat is raising a problem tripping the gate alarm sensor and alerting me to nothing coming in the gate. The sensor is picking up the “pucker brush” swaying in the wind. The scrub is over a hundred feet away and I have tried to reposition the sensor but I have not found the right spot yet to eliminate the false alarms.

I made a round robin drive to Tilden and Pleasanton ninety-one miles to dump our garbage and purchase groceries and drinking water. There is no trash trailer on the site so we have to transport our own garbage. I picked up BBQ for dinner, Brisket an cole Slaw, after a big traveling day for me and a short sleep day for Bonnie not making dinner is a treat.

The picture is the flair burning of gas from the well site, here there three burning at some times. This is taken from a half mile away.

Coffee

Been having trouble staying awake so had coffee last night not after mid night tho. So didn't sleep as sound today. George is making 1st trip out of here garbage, shopping etc.  115 in the shade the AC'S are working hard. Windy again thinking this is the norm here during the summer. Haven't seen any wild life maybe the mothballs is keeping them away? That could be good as we put our garbage out in a barrel in large plastic bag. no animal thus far getting in garbage moth balls working??

Picture

As you look at picture of the new location. Down on the left of the picture is planter old tires with concrete center. I've named them planters there's another one not pictured. There's a watering trough also i call our wading pool. Windy everyday thus far.I'm getting accustomed to the wind. But still not a fan.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 20

Wednesday, August 20, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 78 degrees humid (100%) and hazy sunny to 100 degrees and hazy sunny. Mid day the humidity has come down to 44%, and the temperature is 94 degrees wind 18 from the south, still hot and sticky.

The fuel 300 gallons and tank (yellow) arrived this morning, gravity transfer to fill the generator fuel tank.

This week I have been thinking about the gates we have been located at, five different locations including here. The vehicles that come to these sites, the driver signs in on a log sheet (name & company) we record the vehicle plate number and time in and out. All these gates have a different mixture of companies drillers, and supporting oil build out, supplies and services. The first and third sites did have the same oil pickup tanker company, but they came from towns (company yards).

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 19 hot

Tuesday, August 19, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 74 degrees and hazy sunny to 102 degrees and hazy sunny. Buster is parked out there, our cell phone signal is low with one and two bars, but it is working, slow. We also have our AT&T phone and air card on even they are low.
sunrise at the gate
Yesterday as Buster started going south on interstate thirty-seven I was noticing “wind” with gusting blowing Buster and having to steer more to stay in lane. While setting buster up in place here at the gate the “breeze” helped in me not going over temperature in the evening sun. Today the “Wind at twenty miles per hour with gusts” is making our gate alarms go on with dust and “pucker brush” swaying in the wind tripping the alarms. A good thing we carry pruning shears that can address this problem.
Water setup

Our water “set-up” arrived late morning, delivering 3,100 gallons of water (black tank in picture), pump (blue) and hose connecting to Buster. Also is the waste water tank (green) and a sump tank with pump to the waste tank. Now we need a fuel supply for the generator to be complete.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas. Aug 17 - 18

Sunday, August 17, 2014
Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas  - 79 degrees and partly sunny to 106 degrees and hazy sunny (HHH), hazy hot humid, not so much humidity, 23% but you could see the humidity.

We took a ride this afternoon checking gates, we were offered another gate today starting tomorrow. From our present location close and closer to everything then the first gate. But it is still not close to anything, forty-five miles into the grocery store in Pleasanton. I was too busy driving, looking and riding to take pictures.

We have to be drug screened again tomorrow in Pleasanton then on to work the gate.

Monday, August 18, 2014
Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas  - 79 degrees and mostly sunny to 104 degrees and mostly sunny.
Bonnie in uniform
Bonnie and I checked in on the telephone and then went for the drug screen office in Pleasanton. We went to Walmart and called in completed the drug screen and went to the gate company office. We picked up out uniforms and signed some paperwork. We went to lunch and were waiting for the call to take Buster to the gate.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas.
Bonnie and I finally got the call to gate, late as people were waiting for us but there was no call. We arrived on site at six tonight positioned Buster, right side is west. There is a generator but no water setup (fresh or drain).

Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas - Aug 16

Saturday, August 16, 2014
Turtle Bayou RV Park - Wallisville, Texas  - 77 degrees and mostly sunny.
Yesterday morning we crossed to the west side of the Mississippi river. Bonnie and I were rolling out of the park at nine this morning, this has been a great trip for me as we are getting more miles in the morning and more miles per day, real easy drives.

Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas  - 104 degrees with 23% humidity and sunny.
Diesel $ 3.729 in Baytown riding on the top half of the fuel tank after Florida where I drove on both sides of the fuel tank not wanting to pay the higher prices on central Florida.
I 10 West
After Baytown we drove thru Houston (yes it was Saturday) traffic was medium to heavy (where is everyone going?) but rolling at or above the speed limit. Yes interstate ten is well traveled and even west of Houston the traffic remained heavy. There was light truck traffic mostly cars. In the picture every vehicle in front of Buster has passed by Buster.

Two hundred and fifty-eight miles interstate ten to San Antonio then interstate thirty-seven south to Pleasanton area. Buster was in the park by two o’clock. It was like an oven with the afternoon temperature and low humidity, setting up and connecting Buster. Five travel days in six days and twelve hundred and thirty-five miles covered.

Turtle Bayou RV Park - Wallisville, Texas Aug 15

Friday, August 15, 2014
Lakeside RV Park Livingston, Louisiana - 66 degrees and mostly sunny. Bonnie and I had Buster going down the road by nine o’clock today trying to get miles behind us today.

Turtle Bayou RV Park - Wallisville, Texas (east of Baytown) 93 degrees and sunny. Good day driving two hundred and fifty-eight miles today (interstate ten) stopping before Houston to avoid the traffic, about one forty this afternoon. Set up Buster and went for lunch in Baytown. This park is in the Turtle Bayou, trees and dirt sites with 30 & 50 amp electric. We do not have a sight line for the satellite antenna but we do have shade for Buster.

Buster at Turtle Bayou RV Park

Gasoline $ 3.009 in Baytown, TX, Tan Jan got a drink today.

Lakeside RV Park Livingston, Louisiana - Aug 14

Thursday, August 14, 2014
Summerdale, AL - Rainbow Plantation 73 degrees and mostly sunny.
Bonnie and I got things put away hooked up Tan Jan and were on the road after nine-thirty. It is a slow ride back up to interstate ten and then slow around Mobile as there is a tunnel that interstate ten passes thru that Buster cannot ride thru because of the propane gas bottle.
Buster at Rainbow Plantation

There is a hazardous cargo route to follow around the north side and back to interstate ten. I had a plan for two different stopping places for tonight one further than the other. That one is small only twenty-five sites and there was no room for Buster tonight.
Buster at Rainbow Plantation

I 10 west Mobile Bay

I called the closer one and they had a spot for tonight. When I changed the GPS I put in the wrong address and went too far and had to u-turn an back up seven miles.

Lakeside RV Park Livingston, Louisiana - 91 degrees and sunny. A nice fishing camp with all concrete camp sites. Continuing west I called our gate guard company and we have a gate site for Wednesday next week. I had sent an e-mail late last week letting them know we were headed west to their area looking for a gate Tuesday t here was an e-mail offering a gate.

Summerdale, AL - Rainbow Plantation Aug 12

Tuesday, August 12, 2014
K O A Perry - Perry, Florida - 73 degrees and cloudy with rain showers and some heavy rain before sunrise today.

Buster at Perry, FL K O A
As Bonnie and I were preparing our departure there was no more rain coming down  making for better conditions putting the hoses and cables away. We were on the road by nine-thirty, good for us, we continued north on US 19 & US 27 to interstate ten for our travel west. There were only a few rain drops to deal with during the first few miles then only cloudy and some partly sunny places. I did check the radar online and found there was a band of rain only coming across Perry and surrounding area and the rest of our travel area would be only cloudy.

On the other side of Tallahassee Buster was thirsty for fuel, the last time has been in Brunswick, GA that he last had a taste of diesel fuel. Diesel $ 3.889 here in Tallahassee the highest we paid so far this trip (from Texas in May). As we closed in on our planned nights stop, we realized there was more miles we could make today.

Bonnie at Gulf Shore, AL Beach
Summerdale, AL - Rainbow Plantation 90 degrees (feels like 104) and partly sunny. We were able to make our next planned stop, here in Alabama three hundred mile trip for today, because we had a good start and the transfer into central time zone, gaining and hour. Our arrival here was about two fifteen central time to check into the Escapees Park. After dinner Tan Jan took us to the gulf for a look at the beach.

K O A Perry - Perry, Florida Aug 11 rain

Monday, August 11, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 80 degrees and mostly sunny to 83 degrees and partly sunny.

Buster pulls out of the camp site just before nine-thirty, and George and Bonnie connect Tan Jan to the towbar for our trip. Driving across the Courtney Campbell Causeway toward Tampa we are noticing threatening clouds to the north. As we started northbound on the veterans expressway the sprinkles started and for one hundred and ninety miles we were in and out of rain with some very heavy showers.

K O A Perry - Perry, Florida - 79 degrees and cloudy with rain showers.

I do not usually stop at a K O A, but there is not many places to choose from traveling this way (Suncoast Parkway and US 19) it is all a matter of our convenience for the overnight stay. Buster arrived before one-thirty this afternoon got checked in, setup and went for lunch-dinner.

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL Aug 10

Sunday, August 10, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL - 78 degrees and mostly sunny to 92 degrees and partly sunny.

There was another morning rain shower today, yesterday going to east Tampa there was a heavy rain shower (probably measurable rain for a small area) while Tan Jan was going east on interstate four. There was another while coming back to Buster, all these showers are very local and do not cover a any large area. Going over to Tampa the interstate has some construction but no traffic slowdowns because of that construction eastbound. We did notice in the westbound lanes the construction had traffic tied up for few miles and decided that was not the way to go back to Buster. In the morning picture the sun is shining but a little while later there was a minute of rain shower.
Sunday sunrise
Today I have changed my plan and will not  go north on US 19 from here at Clearwater Travel RV Resort. Buster will travel back over the Courtney Campbell Causeway to the Sun Coast Parkway (toll) and north to the end. There was some construction but the thought of the traffic and traffic lights has changed my mind. It will be easier to drive Buster a steady speed for me and better fuel mileage for Buster.

Alice & Bonnie

Bonnie and I went to Alice’s this afternoon, Kari and Kelly were there also (her daughters). There was a heavy rain shower and clearing after. It has been a nice visit and will miss everyone until next time we come to Florida.

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL Aug 9 Ray

Saturday, August 9, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 79 degrees and mostly sunny to 93 degrees and partly sunny. The temperature range is small (15 degrees)  but the “feels like” temperature is always above the temperature, so it never “feels like” it cools off overnight.

A friend Ray (and his wife Cookie) I used to work with here in Tampa came over for a visit. Ray and I talked over old times when we both drove all over Florida delivering. Bonnie and Cookie had a good time talking also, as they keep in touch on face book. After visiting for a while we went to lunch down the street from the RV park.
Ray

Latter in the afternoon Bonnie and I took a ride in Tan Jan to a RV store on east side of Tampa. I was able to get whit I was looking for and Bonnie found a single cup coffee maker “we needed” to have. Coming back to Buster we detoured to a “new” Walmart, (inspection you know). After all that I got to watch the NASCAR race from Watkins Glenn NY.

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL Aug 7 - 8

Thursday, August 7, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 79 degrees and partly sunny to 91 degrees and mostly sunny. Later in the morning a big black cloud came overhead then opened up with a good rain shower for twenty minutes. Boy is it nice just hanging out.

Friday, August 8, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 77 degrees and mostly sunny to 93 degrees and partly sunny.
Sunrise Busters left side

This morning I went to Tampa for some business and while on the return trip on the Courtney Campbell Causeway I noticed a large black cloud hanging there in the sky, ok another noontime rain shower. I did stop at a store first but as I am driving to Buster the rain starts and is coming down harder as I get closer to Buster and park. I just waited a short time for the rain to stop.

Latter we brought lunch over to Alice and visited for a while. When we start heading for Texas next week I am planning to go up the west coast on US 19, it will be a little tedious as there are plenty of traffic lights and volume of vehicles to deal with but we will be driving out of that as we go north.

Thursday, August 7, 2014

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL Aug 4 - 6

Monday, August 4, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 78 degrees and mostly sunny to 86 degrees and mostly cloudy, 50 percent chance of rain.

We went out to the gulf beach, no pictures, did not think of taking any today, duh. That was so tiring we came back to Buster and napped the rest of the day.

Tuesday, August 5, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 79 degrees and mostly cloudy to 93 degrees and partly sunny.

It is not cooling down overnight as these morning temperatures are more than the temperatures we had while in North Carolina. More humidity also with the “feels like temperature” higher than there in North Carolina also.

Wednesday, August 6, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL  - 79 degrees and mostly sunny to 93 degrees and mostly sunny.

Talked with Ray & Cookie today and will meet them for lunch on Saturday. Bonnie and I went to the Walmart that has a Murphy gas station in ST Pete, regular $ 3.109 there as gasoline prices have been dropping in Florida for two weeks. Bonnie and I brought take out to Alice and Kelly and had a nice lunch and Alice did not cook.

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL Aug 3

Sunday, August 3, 2014
Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL 77 degrees and mostly sunny to 91 degrees and partly sunny (with humidity over seventy-five percent).

Passport America park and a good weekly rate in the summer. There are many park models, some for sale, and plenty of transit RV sites.

Buster has a neighbor
Bonnie and I went over to Alice’s again this afternoon showing pictures of our travels and our children and grandchildren. My brother’s oldest daughter Laura came up from Sarasota and Alice’s oldest daughter Kim and her husband Scott came from Lakeland. So there was a mice visit and picture show and tell. A fun family afternoon. Kelly was there also, but that is here home.

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL Aug 2

Saturday, August 2, 2014
Kingsland, Georgia - Kiki RV Park - 74 degrees and mostly sunny.
Bonnie and I were on the road at nine o’clock today headed for my sisters in Clearwater, Florida. Buster traveled south on interstate ninety-five to interstate ten west and US 301 south to interstate seventy-five south to Tampa. There construction on interstate two seventy five going west out of Tampa slowed traffic to a crawl for a couple of miles then speed picked up but the traffic was heavy all the way across the Courtney Campbell Causeway (SR60). The ride in Buster was much better today with air conditioning working.

Tan Jan & Buster at Clearwater Travel RV Resort

Clearwater Travel RV Resort - Clearwater, FL 95 degrees and mostly sunny. These was thunder and lightening off in the distance but nothing close to us. There was water on the roads near Buster when we came back but we saw no rain.

After doing a quick setup here at the site for Buster Bonnie and I went over to visit with my sister Alice and her daughter Kelly for the rest of the afternoon.

Kingsland, Georgia - two air conditioners repaired

Friday, August 1, 2014
Jacksonville, FL  - 75 degrees and mostly sunny to 93 degrees and partly sunny.

Around noon I checked with the office parts were out for delivery (UPS), but that was a story also for yesterday. Around three- three-thirty another check, and then a new thermostat and two controllers arrived just after four o’clock, Yea. We left the repair shop and ended up getting a bite to eat.

Today with the new telephone I downloaded the APP for Passport America, very easy looking for RV parks close by. I was not near the computer when we were trying to make that decision of where to park tonight.

Then made plans for tonight, deciding that here in Kingsland was the best choice for the night (shortest drive to get out of the city). We went north about twenty-two miles on interstate ninety-five
Buster at Kiki RV Park

Kingsland, Georgia - Kiki RV Park - 93 degrees and partly sunny.
Bonnie and I will push off for Clearwater tomorrow morning. Tonight Buster is cooling off with three air conditioners working.
