Bonnie and Avery walking to USS Hornet |
The USS Hornet was the aircraft carrier to take the Jimmy Doolittle B-25's to Japan for the air raid in 1942. The airplanes were loaded onto the aircraft carrier USS Hornet here in Alameda, CA and was the first action in WW II for this carrier. There were actually two carriers named Hornet CV 8 and CV 12. CV 8 was sunk at the Battle of Santa Cruz in October 1942 and CV 12 was named Hornet to honor the crew of CV 8

These jet aircraft were too big and heavy to fly from this aircraft carrier, F-4 and F-14.
