Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 29 cows

Monday, September 29, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 71 Degrees wind 1 N 84% humidity partly cloudy morning to 84 Degrees wind 9 SSE 29 % humidity mostly cloudy and clearing at sundown.

We are still at our gate, and there were visitors next door. This is the firest we have seen the cows since the first Saturday evening.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 28

Sunday, September 28, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 66 Degrees wind 4 N 93 % humidity partly sunny morning to 86 degrees wind 12 NNE 29 % humidity mostly sunny. We could use a lot more days like today we these temperatures and dry. There is a lot of drying needed after more than a half inch of rain on Saturday. A tanker driver said it was soft and not soupy in at the pads. That is good for loading out oil.

Busy Sunday with football and NASCAR over in Dover, Delaware, yes there are a few vehicles coming and going here at the gate during the commercials, I wish, but I have a DVR.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas Sept 27 Irene

Saturday, September 27, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 72 Degrees wind 8 NE 91 % humidity cloudy morning to 73 Degrees wind 12 NE 99 % humidity rainy afternoon. So the rain yesterday and this morning we are still seeing rain west of us and hoping it stay’s west, it did not. It is my sister Irene's birthday (today 28)

Florida State (#1) at North Carolina State (56 - 41) both undefeated in football and Bonnie is a big Florida State fan. We had two vehicles at the gate before the rain, slow drenching rain, plenty of puddles everywhere. There were even rivers on the side of the dirt road (long continuous puddles).

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 26

Friday, September 26, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 68 Degrees wind 4 gusting to 8 NNW 78 % humidity partly cloudy morning to 87 Degrees wind 19 & gusting to 30 MPH, SE 99% humidity rain. After lunch the days weather turned with wind and rain moving in from two directions east and southwest. This is not a mud gate ok the driveway is dirt but low traffic does make a difference.

Separation of  wires After adjustment
I got a picture on my telephone of the wires crossing the road after the electric company came and adjusted the slack in the power line that touched the ground wire during our storm on Saturday. I feel like that will not happen again. One of my concerns was if there were petroleum vapors and electric wires sparking....

Bonnie was up early and I went to Pleasanton in the rain for our weeks shopping trip.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 69 Degrees wind 6 E 75% humidity partly cloudy morning to 92 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny. The temperatures have moderated to the comfortable range with the mornings seeing sixties for the first time two days in a row since we are back here in Texas at the gate’s. There was a rain shower move thru early evening.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 24

Wednesday, September 24, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 68 Degrees wind 6 ENE 61% humidity partly cloudy morning to 85 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny.

A slow morning compared to yesterday only one truck to re-direct from our gate to another. I do not know where these other gates are, and I do not have the need to know, just not here the drivers need is not my concern here at this gate. The paved road is not a thru street as it does dead end.

The electric company came this morning as the two man crew with a bucket lift truck, one half hour on site and one wire tightened and clearance between wires made a great improvement. It seams there was a loose crimp that had slipped over time until we had contact during the wind storm Saturday afternoon. When the electric company came I had my first vehicle of the day just in front of the electric crew. No pictures as my camera is giving me problems with the lens focusing.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 23

Tuesday, September 23, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 74 Degrees wind 2 E 79% humidity mostly sunny morning to 93 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny.

Here it is nine-thirty in the morning and I have turned away three vehicles to other gates on the paved road. One was a flatbed truck with a load of pipe, supposed to be 3.5 miles down the road. I looked at the page of documents, no directions, then his phone, 3.5 miles, I told him further down. He called the destination and I talked with the person yes 3.5 miles from the highway. I helped him backout of the driveway (quickest way) to turnaround and head one and a half miles further to his destination. The other pickup trucks one needed to go in either direction, back west and further east. A lot of work for a slow morning.

Sunset and the camera does not capture it like a persons eye

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 21 - 22

Sunday, September 21, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 76 Degrees wind 6 NE 91 % humidity partly cloudy morning to 102 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny. There is a storm southwest of up but we have been dry so far today. We did get more rain during the night but there was only one vehicle for Bonnie.

Slow Sunday with a very low vehicle count for me. NASCAR RACE IN Loudon, New Hampshire and Football boy was I busy.

Monday, September 22, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 71 Degrees wind 6 NE 91 % humidity mostly sunny morning to 93 Degrees wind 10 E 36% humidity mostly sunny.

Slow morning with the afternoon picking up a little, but actually just a few vehicles. We are expecting to get released from the gate as soon as the gate electrical actuator is repaired and installed. As far as we know the electrical power company has not come out to view the wire condition reported to them over the weekend.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 20 shocking

Saturday, September 20, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 77 Degrees wind 7 E 84 % humidity gray overcast morning to 89 Degrees wind 7 ENE 82 % humidity mostly cloudy with a rain squall out of the east northeast at dinner time.

Pole with transformer
The winds started gusting up so I closed the window awning on the east side to stop the flapping and shortly after the rain started.  More wind, gusting so much so, two high wires coming across the road were blowing together and a fifteen foot fire ball was blowing to the west and causing a loud noise. Electric power was surging in Buster. The wires are still twisted but not sparking. I called the electric company. Upon further viewing later from outside I can see the wires did not cross or tangle. The wires were blown together and the above happened. The pictures show the wires coming to the transformer one power and the other probably a ground are strung close together.

I attempted to do shopping yesterday afternoon only problem was I left my wallet in Buster at the gate so I only drove into Pleasanton to dump garbage. Bonnie was still wide awake at eight in the morning I asked if she was good for a while so I could do shopping. It was different shopping so early as there was no congestion in the stores. The H E B parking lot is another story more parking spaces are fenced off for store expansion. The store is under reconstruction for a fifty percent larger store.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 18 - 19

Thursday, September 18, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 75 Degrees wind 7 SE 88 % humidity partly cloudy morning to 102 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny.

Transport trucks showed up at our gate this morning, workover rig is moving out today. I kind of knew this was going to happen as the salesman for the transport company was here during the morning yesterday. So “for this gate” the vehicle count was above our average day count. The afternoon was exceptionally slow as there is no work going on at the well sites. We are here ready for anyone that show’s for work.

Friday, September 19, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 78 Degrees wind 3 NE 92% humidity rain morning to 94 degrees wind 10 E 41 % humidity partly sunny. When I got up this morning Buster’s windshield was wet with rain. I did not hear anything so it was a light silent rain still cloudy and more is forecasted for today, just something to deal with. We did have that east wind gusting enough that I brought in the left window awning as the snapping was noisy, and the sun was past and not shining on that side (left side is east). We should be closing this gate as we are at the maximum time expected, ten days but we are here until released.

Later in the morning a crew came in for flowback, a function that takes place after a workover rig has been on a well. The crew usually is two men splitting the twenty-four hours with one watching or monitoring the well at all times. The time the flowback crew is on site vary’s from well to well.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 17 Gas

Wednesday, September 17, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 74 Degrees wind 2 ESE 79 % humidity partly cloudy morning to 93 Degrees wind 4 SSE gusting to 9, 46 % humidity mostly cloudy. You Can feel the heat in the breeze even tho the sun is hiding.

We are back to a slow traffic gate and are living with that fact. Yes it is boring but we are able to handle that aspect of gate guarding also. It is more interesting to talk with the different workers (companies) that come to do their task here at the oil well sites.

sunset

Oil company, or company man, the oil company that has the site has a person on site in charge of the work being performed. They normally do no actual work themselves, all contracted out to vendors. Transport companies delivering the products from manufacturing companies. Supply houses and “small parts houses” (hardware supplies) needed while working at the site. Services companies laborers doing anything not technical. “Gaggers" person, they are another vendor to check individual wells, tanks, water separators, read gages, adjust valves and other equipment at the oil well site.  A gager will from time to time shut in a well (turn it off) for other maintenance. Safety companies that are here to protect personnel and detect for poison gas (H 2 S). There support companies that bring in support equipment (fork lifts, people lifts, light towers and port-o-let toilets.
Gas Tanker
Across the paved road from us there is a compressor site with construction under way that has caused a gager to come in and shutter our wells for the day or longer for compressor station maintenance. Latter today I have noticed there are to tanker trucks coming to load out the compressed gas, the neighborhood is very quite today as thge driveway for that operation is directly across from our driveway. We hear the trucks entering and leaving the compressor site, but they do not trip our alarm.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 15 - 16

Monday, September 15, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 68 Degrees wind 6 E 87 % humidity cloudy morning to 91 degrees, wind 6 NW 56 % humidity partly sunny.

Only a couple of vehicles in early today for maintenance on the rig, as there is a big meeting about workover rigs at the oil company office. With no work scheduled the vehicle traffic goes down accordingly.

Tuesday, September 16, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 73 Degrees wind 5 N 79 % humidity mostly cloudy morning to 92 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly cloudy. Tropical Storm Odile will be influencing our “weather” along with the Gulf of Mexico having storms all coming in our direction.

Bonnie woke up with “cabin fever” today, the need to go into town. She had her energy back to get up early enough and get on the road. After dinner I was “allowed” to go and dump the garbage in Tilden.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas Sept 13 visitors

Saturday, September 13, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 66 Degrees wind 12 NE with gusting to 23 MPH 90 % humidity mostly cloudy morning to 78 Degrees wind 10 E 89 % humidity mostly cloudy. We got about two tenths of an inch of rain overnight, but no mud. I brought in the main and left side awnings as the gusting wind was really flapping them. These temperatures today were just great, my time outside was enjoyable for the first time since coming back to Texas. All last month and until Friday the afternoon temperatures were over one hundred and the heat index was over one hundred in the morning.
Grandson Avery
Gate business picked up as the workover rig was moved from one pad to another. The transport trucks came in and other support services keeping me somewhat busy all day. Bonnie is very slow over night but needs to be ready as oil trucks or security vehicle could come at any time.
Avery & Bonnie
The big event for today was our daughter Carole and family came down from Austin for a visit and a grandson fix. The fur kids came also the old boys have trouble climbing the steps into Buster as their hips (the dogs) are seeing the damage of old age. In the middle and late afternoon there was low vehicle traffic and allowing for the most visiting time.
Carole & Bonnie
These were more rain showers today morning and evening but no real measurable rain  to talk about.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas Sept 11 - 12

Thursday, September 11, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 79 Degrees wind 6 SSE 74 % humidity partly cloudy
morning to 102 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny

Very mundane day, little gate traffic coming or going, but we are here ready to work. About noon our water delivery showed up and water was transferred into the pallet container. We also got the outside driveway light, needed for  vehicle drivers side as the street light is on the passengers side of incoming vehicles and is of little help in writing on the clipboard. Outgoing vehicles it is not needed as much. After dinner I went into Tilden to dump our garbage, just under five miles one way.

Friday, September 12, 2014
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 77 Degrees wind 5 ENE 88 % humidity partly cloudy morning to 97 Degrees wind 17 ESE 48 % humidity mostly cloudy. We had some sprinkles off and on here at the gate but the “weather” is moving in from the east southeast. 60 % chance of rain is forecasted for overnight.

After Bonnie got up this afternoon and was ready I went into Pleasanton shopping. Tan Jan got rained on going up TX 16 but was stopping as I arrived in Pleasanton. Not much else to write about as the activity is slow at the gate. Inside there is a workover rig and they are doing their thing.

Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 10 remember 9-11

Wednesday, September 10, 2014    revised
Busters Gate - Tilden, Texas, 78 Degrees wind 9 SSE 79 % humidity partly sunny morning to 102 Degrees wind 12 S 41% humidity mostly sunny.

Remember 9-11
We are all remembering 9-11 today and a lot of special remembering programs on the television.

prickly pear plant

A day with nothing exciting to write about. The company man did not come with the remaining water. Later in the afternoon I texted him, his reply was equipment failure will be here Thursday morning. Doing a walk around today I found the prickly pear plant with the red fruit, picture.

Busters New Gate - Tilden, Texas, Sept 9 water pallet

Tuesday, September 9, 2014
Busters New Gate - Tilden, Texas, 74 Degrees wind 4 SSE & 91% humidity mostly sunny morning to 102 Degrees wind 12 SSE 29 % humidity mostly sunny.

Up and ready for work early today, it started off slow until mid morning when equipment started trickling in for the work to be done here at the gate. The work over rig came in around eleven, the main item for the work here at the well.

A view further on the paved road
The gate guard company has three more gates further down on this road, the woman from the next gate down stopped and said hello. Later in the afternoon our water pallet container arrived 275 gallon capacity a pump and hose then he went to get another pallet container filled with water and gravity transferred the water into the one on th ground. They will bring more water tomorrow.

Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas - Sept 8

Monday, September 8, 2014
Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas  - 73 degrees and partly sunny to 97 degrees and mostly sunny.

Bonnie and I were up early as our portable air conditioner was making a horrible noise when bonnie shut it off. We pried it open carefully and found the exhaust blower was bad and the coils in the bottom plugged with dirt. We made plans and got to Lowes in San Antonio to replace that portable air conditioner. Idylis portable air conditioner from Lowe's 12,000 BTU, remote control, three speed fan.

Getting that done there was important as I got a telephone call (after I got the new portable air conditioner operating) for a new gate starting eight AM tomorrow morning and we could go there this afternoon. There were other things we needed to do but we headed to the new gate. It was a forty eight mile drive there from the RV park thru Pleasanton to the new gate north of Tilden.

We are here on a paved road, two miles north of Tilden with real electric (no generator, we are “on the grid”) and sewer, but the well water is not good. No dirt roads to deal with on this gate. Ok the road in to the well area is dirt but we do not have to drive that.

Buster at Tilden Gate

They are bringing a portable tank of water in the morning. Tonight we use the water on Buster that I filled at the RV park. It was a good thing I made sure Buster’s water tank was full before we left there. As we needed showers before we went out to dinner, last chance for ten days, unless the gate job extends beyond that expected date. On "the grid" we also have a regular street light.

Atascosa RV Park -, Texas - Sept 7 RV park

Sunday, September 7, 2014
Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas  - 74 degrees and partly sunny to 93 degrees and hot, not so much humidity, but hot. The southeast sky is very black this evening probably rain tonight.
Buster at Atascosa RV Park

Our Friday night trip into Tilden included a stop to dump garbage at the gate guard company yard there in Tilden. There might have been a spot to park Buster Saturday but not knowing the electric power available (Buster needs 50 amp) and the dirt factor (rain in the forecast) influenced our decision to come here to Atascosa RV Park with paved sites good electric and water are important to us. There is also the available shopping and restaurants between Pleasanton and San Antonio are overriding factors as we are between them either going north to San Antonio or south to Pleasanton. Also there is rain forecast in the southwest for the coming week and having Buster parked in a paved site is also a plus.

Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas - Sept 6 unstuck

Saturday, September 6, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas -  mostly cloudy 75 degrees, humidity (100%) wind 0 MPH (morning).

I did not sleep good thinking about how to rock Buster and get the left rears to drive out of the mud. Letting Bonnie sleep and going to the post office first as they are only open nine to ten. I needed to pick up that mail before we left the area. Driving there on TX 72 Tan Jan took a rock from a truck going the other way but I did not see anything on the windshield. When I got back to Buster it was digging in front and behind all the tires. When we were ready to move it took three tries rocking Buster to eventually drive out of the mud. When the wheels were spinning the left rear was falling off to the left as that was lower and getting closer to the “pot” gray water, sump/pump. I really could not move that pot but I could have cut the pipe if need be. Then collecting all the wood and blocks I used for the jacks and stowing the electric cable. I was able to back into an area with hard pack and not get stuck while doing that and heading to the highway stopping just before the highway to make some telephone calls.

Buster's tracks Pot on the left with white pipe

Atascosa RV Park Pleasanton, Texas  - 96 degrees and mostly sunny. Bonnie drove Tan Jan from the gate into Tilden.  I called the Park for a site and it was available then I checked if there was a new gate, not today so we headed into Tilden for diesel fuel for Buster at Pilot $ 3.529 per gallon. Then I connect Tan Jan to the towbar and off we went up TX 16 and onto TX 97 to Pleasanton. After getting Buster parked and set up taking showers we went for steak dinners. That is when I noticed the crack anf the star at the top of Tan Jan’s windshield. We stopped and got Tan Jan washed and we needed milk and bread from H E B.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Sept 5 gate closed

Friday, September 5, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - partly sunny 76 degrees, humidity (100%) wind 0 MPH (morning) to (afternoon) cloudy 91 degrees. And rain, puddles and mud.

Trip for groceries into Pleasanton and Tilden for mail never happened today a typical slow morning until one-thirty when the oil company supervisor came to the gate and said we are closed. I started to pickup some outside and then slowly went about waking Bonnie. I continued more work outside while Bonnie was slowly coming around. Then the skies opened and we had rain lots of rain.
Right jacked up trying for traction

When we got to the point of actually moving Buster he slipping and sliding and moving very little actually sideways as we are slopped to the left and slipping that way. I worked until I could not see any gain and call the gate company, try tomorrow was their answer. Too late for mail but we dumped garbage in Tilden and got something to eat at the new Pilot fuel station. The phone signal was poor three or four bars but 1 X.

Left side, moving this way

Before we left Buster I turned on the outside generator and kept the air conditioners running. When we returned there was no electric to the rig kitchen and television, I gave up checking the circuit breakers and what I could think of to take a shower, after reconnecting the water. Trying to get a fan running in the bedroom it dawned on me that the ground fault receptacle was in the bathroom and controlling all the other receptacles. When I was attempting to close the tray after stowing Busters electric cable, there was a problem because I did not disconnect and extension cord for a fan I use in the back of the refrigerator. That was plugged into a receptacle controlled by the ground fault receptacle in the bathroom.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - sept 4 rain

Thursday, September 4, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - mostly cloudy 77 degrees, humidity (100%) wind 5 MPH (morning) to (afternoon) Hazy sun 91 degrees humidity (55%) wind 12 MPH.

Rain “big drops” yes Buster took a bath today (after two). I just had two pickup trucks and a guy driving a open forklift come on site and the rains came down as they rolled onto the pad, don’t know how much work will get done from them. Puddles we have puddles. The shower only lasted a few minutes (four hundreds of an inch was measured in the area) and the mud was there, as I had to go out to the generator and reset the ground fault receptacle when the rain subsided. The circuit for the portable air conditioner tripped. Off in the distance the flairs are still burning with their regular force.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Sept 2 - 3 wind

Tuesday, September 2, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - mostly cloudy 77 degrees, humidity (100%) (we did have a 73 DPSF (drops per square foot) wind 4 MPH (morning) to (afternoon) Hazy sun 94 degrees humidity (49%) wind 18 MPH.

Nothing going here, work wise at the well site. Just routine oil and water removal and the daily gager (person for the oil company to check the oil well and order trucks for the oil and water and any other needs to keep the well operation) visits, at least two a shift. The wind gusts coming from the south-southeast have had me bringing in the left table side awning in the afternoon. The gusts are causing the awning to flap and bow up, safer to close the awning in.

Wednesday, September 3, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - mostly cloudy 76 degrees, humidity (93%) wind 0 MPH (morning) to (afternoon) cloudy 91 degrees humidity (54%) wind 18 MPH with gusts to 26 MPH. There is tropical storm Dolly going into Mexico below our location. We are predicted to get thunder storms after noon today. Now before noon we had a brief shower enough to wet everything at once.

This afternoon the rain shower came, but the wind and dust before the rain were of more concern as I needed to close the main and bedroom awnings before these awnings were damaged. This is the first time I had to close the main awning since Buster came to this site. I had closed the table side awning just after one as the sun was off that sides windows at that time. The shower did not amount to any measurable rain just enough to wet down the dirt road. The wind and gusts never blew out the “pilot lights” flairs.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - sept 1 - Portable

Monday, September 1, 2014   (Labor Day 2014)
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - hazy sun 75 degrees, humidity (100%) wind 0 MPH        (morning) to (afternoon) Hazy sun 91 degrees humidity (54%) wind 12 MPH.

Holiday routine today, nothing different just wanted to say that. With the triple digit days of the summer here it challenged what we experienced in Jacksonville Florida in late July. At least here we started the gate with three working air conditioners. When we arrived in Jacksonville, FL we had only one working air conditioner and that was overloaded and shutting down during the hottest temperatures. The portable air conditioner was able to be reset and the temperatures were bearable over night for sleeping.

Most of the afternoon and early evening the all three air conditioners are working hard and we did keep Buster’s inside temperature below eighty two degrees as our highest inside temperatures. The portable is connected to the flex duct that sends the hot air and moisture outside.

Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - Aug 30 - 31 weekend

Saturday, August 30, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 76 degrees humid (99%) wind 4 MPH and mostly cloudy (morning) to 96 degrees and party sunny 50% humidity with winds of 17 MPH.

We are in weekend mode with our gate vehicles coming and going. Minimum number of pickup trucks and crude oil and waste water removal. Bonnie slept good today after the interrupted sleeping of yesterday.

Sunday, August 31, 2014
Buster’s Gate - Calliham, Texas - 76 degrees humid (100%) wind 4 MPH and partly cloudy (morning) to 93 degrees and partly cloudy 48% humidity with winds of 17 MPH.

One thousand posts, Wow - time marches on and there were times I did not post every day for there was nothing to say about a dull day, like now there is nothing that is out of normal and really nothing going here at the gate. It is amazing that we have this gate job, but the oil company or the rancher wants a gate guard here, thank you very much. Otherwise we would be setting in an RV park paying rent instead of collecting a paycheck.

The flair stacks are taking a beating from the south southeast wind tonight, at times they were completely right, I was not able to catch that picture moment. NASCAR race from Atlanta tonight, I will watch the end on the DVR as I fell asleep some place during the race.
